Paradise on Earth in the Sculpture Garden of Gees

In the Sculpture Garden in Gees, you are treated to no less than seven hectares of paradise on earth. A unique place where art and nature meet in a special garden with English characteristics. The Sculpture Garden ‘Beelden in Gees’, as this garden is officially called, guarantees you an unforgettable experience that will stay with you for a long time.

Gallery and Sculpture Garden of Gees

A true paradise, the Gallery and Sculpture Garden are situated in a vast landscape that can be counted among the most beautiful in Drenthe. In addition to the diversity of sculptures, the planting in the garden is also very varied. To fully inform you, there is a small sign with each plant species. You will also find beautiful rolling lawns that are interspersed here and there with equally beautiful ponds and idyllic groups of trees. There are also themed gardens such as the geranium garden and the grass garden, each with its own specific layout and atmosphere. You can relax on the benches and secluded shelters on the grounds and quietly enjoy all the beauty around you.

Walking through the nature reserve

When the weather permits, you can take a walk along the winding forest path that offers surprising and picturesque views. It is also possible to walk through the nature reserve, which is surrounded by a beautiful little fen and wild vegetation. There are, of course, no sculptures in this nature reserve, but it is certainly no less worthwhile for that.

A blooming garden and art during the Summer Exhibition

As soon as spring arrives, the summer exhibition at the Sculpture Garden in Gees begins. In the garden, the trees bud and the first flowers are visible. You will also see many birds building their nests. Against this idyllic backdrop, numerous artists then display their finest works of art. Sculptures, but also jewellery, paintings and other surprising objects. The artists come from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany and use all conceivable materials. During the summer exhibition, you can also admire the work of graduating talents from the Classical Academy. Furthermore, there is music in the garden every Wednesday evening.

Autumn exhibition in enchanting colours

Once summer is over and the leaves begin to fall from the trees, the autumn exhibition starts at Beelden in Gees. The themes of the exhibition vary each time. For the 2018 autumn exhibition, artists connected to the country's extremities were chosen. That is to say, far from the hustle and bustle of the Randstad. All painters during this autumn exhibition come from the Classical Academy, where figuration is central. In addition, ceramists from Limburg will also contribute to the autumn exhibition. Here, ceramics are shown in all their facets. From sculptures to functional objects and from jewellery to hard porcelain.
